Acupuncture

An effective holistic treatment to promote healing in cats and dogs.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that supports the healing of acute injuries. Our experts can provide acupuncture to furry friends, depending on what works best for their health. It can seem intimidating to think about a series of needles in your pet but this is a non-invasive practice. Its therapeutic qualities work with our other medical practices as a preventative measure to support your pet’s holistic health. If you’re interested in this practice or have questions, don’t hesitate to contact our clinic at 403-335-3519.

What is acupuncture?

Veterinarians undergo special training to practice acupuncture on pets. Acupuncture involves placing small, thin needles into specific areas of the body based on what needs targeting. These acupuncture points are areas where nerves and blood vessels meet, which are often sites of inflammation and pain. The purpose of the needles is to stimulate blood flow to these acupuncture points and prompt your pet’s body to generate nerve and tissue repair.

Do the needles hurt my pet?

Acupuncture is not intended to hurt your pet. It’s non-invasive and provides therapeutic treatment, which aims to ease pain and stimulate internal healing. One of the benefits of the treatment is your pet is not required to go under anesthesia to receive it.

Why might my pet need acupuncture?

Acupuncture is recommended based on your pet’s needs. We want to recommend the best course of treatment that supports their holistic health. This could include acupuncture if your pet has an acute injury or is experiencing pain. This might look like arthritis, back pain, allergies or neurological disorders. Acupuncture is also a great practice your pet can benefit from as a preventive measure or a way of fostering good health.

Why is acupuncture helpful for my pet?

Acupuncture has a range of benefits for your pet, including being a drug-free therapy method. Side effects are also rare. Generally, pets are more relaxed after their 20-30 minute sessions, with the aim of improving their overall health over the course of multiple sessions. As a tried and true healing practice, it’s a great tool to integrate into your pet’s wellness practices.
